Catching Up

I've been away from the blog for a while (had you noticed?).  I go around the garden writing posts in my head, even taking photos, but never seem to make the transition from brain to electrons.  After spending last weekend with a friend who reminded me several times a day that I'd left off talking about zucchini in August, I dug out my old half-finished and barely-started posts and got them prettied up.  Fourteen posts from August to February just appeared here, so travel back in time with me and my garden!

February 2012 Blooms

The theme of February:  early spring bulbs.  Starting in the patio terrace, here are some yellow and purple crocus:

The neglected bed doesn't look quite so forlorn when it has a carpet of purple crocus:

The front border has crocus, too:

And a new bed (that maybe I'll post about someday) has some new white crocus:
Love those purple edges!

It also has a few snowdrops, a new bulb for me this year:

And don't forget the promise of daffodils to come next month!

(also blooming:  purple and white hellebores, creeping phlox, and assorted weeds)

Balboa Park

Work sent me to San Diego last week (woe is me!), and I had part of an afternoon to wander Balboa Park.  My favorite garden-y part was the Palm Canyon.

But it was a long climb back out.

Another Sign of an Early Spring

I don't care what Phil saw or didn't see the other day, there are lots of signs of an early spring around here.  Daffodils in February?  No, worse than that.  I first noticed these blooming down the road from me in late January, but I didn't get back to take pictures until today.
